Painting | Palette
I’ve just received an email about colour palettes, and what you can learn about an artist from his or her palette. The email contained a link to Oil Color Palettes
I’ve been meaning to discuss my own (acrylic) palette for some time now, and that email is my call to action – what does your palette say about you?
My main palette is [singlepic id=38 w= h= float=left]
Acrylic on canvas
- Titanium White
- Zinc white
- Cadmium Yellow Light
- Hansa Yellow Light
- Cadmium Yellow Med
- Cadmium Red Light
- Quinacridone Violet
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean Blue, Chromium
In any one painting I limit myself to three or four colours plus one or more whites. Titanium, Quinacridone and Ultramarine seem to get most use – they are certainly the pigments I replaced first.
Pigments that I occasionally use are
- Cobalt Green
- Quinacridone Crimson (a mixed colour, PR202 and PR206)
I have nothing against black, and will add that (probably Mars Black) in time. I’m also experimenting with Interference and Iridescent colours – expect to see more of these later.
Of course, I reserve the right to throw this lot out and start an entierly new pallette …
